The best link building tools in 2026 depend on the job: GEOboom, Pitchbox and BuzzStream for outreach, Hunter for finding editors' emails, Ahrefs and Semrush for backlink research, Linkody for monitoring, and FATJOE or SaaSBacklinks if you would rather buy placements than run outreach.
Most lists rank every tool against every other, so a backlink database ends up competing with an email finder. We split 15 link building tools into the five jobs of a campaign — outreach, contact finding, research, monitoring, buying placements — and picked three per job. Each card covers what the tool does in that job, key features, a dated price, pros and cons, and a screenshot. If you only need one free tool, start with Google Search Console: it shows who already links to you.
We checked every pricing page on October 29, 2026, and read reviews on G2, Capterra and Trustpilot where they exist. Disclosure: this list is written by the GEOboom team. GEOboom is our product and is listed first in outreach; every other tool is described from its own site and public reviews.

How we chose these link building tools
How do link building tools work? Every campaign runs the same chain: find pages worth a mention, find the person who edits them, email them, agree terms, then check the placement stays live. Each tool here owns one or more links in that chain, so we judged it on the links it owns:
- Where prospects come from. A keyword or SERP scrape, a competitor's backlinks, your own list, or the pages AI answers already cite. And whether off-topic sites, competitors and link farms are removed before you see the list.
- Whose contact you get. The editor or author of the page, or any address on the domain.
- Who sends and follows up. Mailboxes included and warmed, or yours to set up; follow-ups by default or built by hand.
- What you do per placement. Write every reply yourself, or approve or skip an offer that arrives ready.
- How placements are checked. Link live, anchor, nofollow, indexing, and how often.
- How you pay. Monthly or annual contract, subscription or per placement, and what a trial looks like.
We kept only live products that appear in today's top-ranking lists or that we have reviewed in depth, and dropped tools that have shut down.
Link building outreach tools
Outreach is where a campaign is won or lost: these three tools find the sites, write to the people who run them and handle what comes back.
1. GEOboom — best for getting mentioned on the pages AI answers cite
Best for: in-house SEOs and marketers whose competitors show up in AI answers, and agencies running that work for several clients on one subscription.
GEOboom is an outreach agent built for one job: getting your brand onto the pages AI answers already cite. It pulls those pages from your AI-visibility tracker or prompts, screens them, finds the editor and runs the emails from mailboxes it provides. What reaches you is an offer from a site owner, ready to approve or skip.
Key features
- Prospects from AI citations. Connect an AI-visibility tracker or enter prompts and GEOboom pulls the pages AI answers cite. You can also upload your own list or start from keywords to target pages that rank in Google.
- Screening before outreach. Off-topic pages, competitor sites, pages that already mention you and link farms are removed, and the most valuable pages go first. Reading and filtering prospects costs you nothing; the 100 publishers a month are what is left after the screen.
- Editors, not info@. Verified editorial contacts at over 90% of sites, up to three contacts per publisher.
- Mailboxes included. Three mailboxes on GEOboom's domains, kept warm while sending, with inbox-placement tests and bounce monitoring. Follow-ups run for weeks without you.
- Offers ready to approve. Each reply arrives with the publisher's other sites and their metrics, your pages to insert, the response and a blurb written in the list's style. You approve or skip.
- Placement monitoring. Every placement you win is watched. If a link or mention drops, GEOboom emails the publisher right away to put it back, without waiting for you, and tells you it did.

Pricing: $150 a month for outreach to 100 publishers a month, three mailboxes, and unlimited users and projects, billed monthly. Publisher fees are separate. Pay site owners directly, or use Buy for you: a dozen small publishers become one contract and one invoice, for a 30% fee per payment (minimum $40) with 12 months of placement protection. As of October 2026, geoboom.io.
Pros
- About 10 minutes to launch and about 2 hours a month to approve offers and pay publishers.
- No mailboxes, domains or warm-up to set up.
- Prospects are screened before outreach, so the monthly 100 are publishers worth writing to.
- One subscription covers every client and every teammate.
Cons
- No digital PR: no journalist lists, press releases or newsroom pitching.
- No marketplace or link inventory to buy from.
- Not a done-for-you service: placements go live after your approval.
In practice: in a published case study, 825 URLs from one IT-services brand became 215 publishers and 30 offers in 10 days, for about 10 minutes of the client's work.
2. Pitchbox — best for agency teams running outreach at volume
Best for: agencies and in-house teams building 20 or more links a month who want one platform for the whole team.
Pitchbox calls itself "the AI Outreach Platform for link building and AEO". It covers prospecting, qualification, contact finding, sequences, AI replies and link monitoring, with workspaces for each client. You connect the sending mailboxes; Pitchbox helps keep them healthy.
Key features

- Qualification with AI Link Farm Detection and an Inspection Queue before outreach, plus a contact waterfall for finding emails.
- AI Reply Agent that works from a playbook: it can send and chase on its own or leave drafts, and counteroffer up to a price ceiling you set.
- Deliverability: MXRight on every plan; mailbox rotation and domain reputation from the Advanced plan.
- Link monitoring for 1,000 to 10,000 links depending on plan.

Pricing: Pro $300/mo (2 mailboxes, 2,000 emails a month, 1 workspace), Advanced $600/mo, Scale $1,200/mo. Annual billing brings those to $210, $420 and $825 a month. Every plan carries a 12-month commitment; the trial runs through a demo. As of October 29, 2026, pitchbox.com/pricing.
Pros
- Covers every step of outreach in one platform, with workspaces per client.

- A full history of every relationship, useful for PR teams that pitch the same people again.
- 87% of its 165 G2 reviews give four or five stars.
Cons
- No mailbox warm-up or deliverability monitoring.
- Automated follow-ups start at $174 a month.
- Reviewers report inaccurate contact data; the newest G2 reviews date from spring 2025.
Full review: BuzzStream review. Head to head: BuzzStream vs GEOboom.
Contact finding tools
If you send outreach from your own inbox or a CRM, you need the right person's email first; these three tools find and verify it.
4. Hunter — best for finding an editor's email from a name and a domain
Best for: link builders who know the site and the author and need a verified address fast.
Hunter's Email Finder returns an address for a name and a domain, along with the public pages where it was found and when. Domain Search lists the addresses on a site, so you can pick the editor rather than a generic inbox. It also sends sequences from connected email accounts.
Key features

- Domain Search for the people and addresses behind a website.
- Free Chrome extension that finds emails behind the site you're browsing.
- Sequences from 1 connected email account on Free, 3 on Starter and 10 on Growth.
- Credits: 1 per email found, 0.5 per verification.

Research and backlink analysis tools
Research tools tell you who links to your competitors and how strong those sites are; they don't send emails, but most prospect lists start here.
7. Ahrefs — best for researching competitors' backlinks
Best for: finding the sites that link to competitors and deciding which are worth a pitch.
Ahrefs' Site Explorer shows who links to any domain, from an index of 35 trillion live backlinks. Link Intersect lists sites that link to your competitors but not to you, the classic starting list for outreach.

Backlink monitoring tools
Monitoring tools check that links you earned or bought are still live, still followed and still indexed. If your placements come from outreach, your outreach tool may already do this: GEOboom watches every placement it wins and, if one drops, writes to the publisher on its own; Pitchbox and BuzzStream monitor links up to their plan limits. The three below watch your whole link profile, whoever built it, and alert you so you can follow up.
10. Linkody — best for low-cost monitoring of links you built

If you'd rather buy placements
These three services run the outreach themselves and charge per live placement, on pages chosen by DR tier or by ranking for your keywords. If the pages you need are the ones AI answers cite, GEOboom runs the outreach to them, and Buy for you takes over the paying: you approve each offer, GEOboom pays the publishers and you get one invoice, and if a placement later drops, GEOboom writes to the publisher itself. At five placements a month on DR 40–50 sites and an assumed $120 publisher fee, that comes to about $190 per placement including the subscription, for about two hours a month of approvals. In GEOboom's case study, the offers ran from free mention exchanges to about $200.
13. FATJOE — best for agencies buying placements by DR tier
Type: service, outsourced link building.
Best for: agencies that resell links under their own brand and want a fixed price per DR tier.
FATJOE describes itself as "SEO Services for Agencies & Teams" and its Blogger Outreach as "an outsourced link-building agency". You pick a DR tier, give the anchor and target URL, and FATJOE's team finds the site, writes the post and sends a white-label report.

- Brand Mentions: listicle and review placements on DR 30+ sites.
- Media Placements: a catalogue of about 225 sites where you pick the site yourself.

Pricing: Blogger Outreach DR 10+ £60 ($82), DR 30+ £100 ($136), DR 40+ £180 ($245), DR 50+ £280 ($381), DR 60+ £380 ($517) per placement; Repeat Monthly saves 10%; delivery from 14 days. USD at the site's own conversion on October 29, 2026, fatjoe.com.

15. SaaSBacklinks — best for SaaS brands that want into "best software" listicles
Type: service, link building agency for SaaS.
Best for: SaaS companies that want to appear in the listicles where their competitors already are.
SaaSBacklinks calls itself "A link building agency for SaaS". You name two or three competitors; it finds listicles that feature them and rank for your target keywords, you approve a shortlist, and it pitches the sites, writes your blurb and reports the live URL and anchor.

- You approve every site before they pitch, and pay only for placements you approve.
- Blurb written for you in the list's format.

- Lists are chosen by keyword rankings and traffic, not by DR alone.
Cons
- No G2 or Trustpilot reviews we could find.
- Built for SaaS listicles only.
- The page doesn't say whether links are dofollow, nofollow or sponsored.
How to choose the right link building tool
Most teams need one tool per job, not one per category: a research tool to build the list, something to run the outreach, and a way to check placements. Match each tool to the job you actually have.
- Choose GEOboom if you need mentions on the pages AI answers cite and want outreach that runs without setting up mailboxes, cleaning lists or managing a team.
- Choose Pitchbox if you run 20 or more links a month across clients and can commit to a 12-month contract.
- Choose BuzzStream if you do digital PR as well as links and want a CRM of every relationship, with your own mailboxes.
- Choose Hunter if you know the site and the author and need a verified email in seconds.
- Choose Skrapp.io if your editors are easier to find on LinkedIn than on their sites.
- Choose Prospeo if you look up contacts for hundreds of sites a month.
- Choose Ahrefs if you build prospect lists from competitors' backlinks.
- Choose Semrush if your team already lives in Semrush and wants backlink gap and audit in the same account.
- Choose Majestic if you judge sites by link quality and history before pitching or paying.
- Choose Linkody if you need daily checks on a few thousand links for little money.
- Choose SE Ranking if you want monitoring, rankings and audits in one suite.
- Choose Google Search Console if you want a free view of who links to you today.
- Choose FATJOE if you resell links and want a fixed price per DR tier with white-label reports.
- Choose Respona if you want placements on a set delivery date and nothing to run.
- Choose SaaSBacklinks if you sell SaaS and want spots in listicles that rank for your keywords.
For in-house SEOs and marketers whose competitors keep showing up in AI answers, and for agencies doing that work for clients, GEOboom is our top pick. It starts from the pages AI already cites, screens them, finds the editors and runs the emails, so your part is about 10 minutes to launch and about 2 hours a month to approve offers and pay. One subscription covers every client and teammate.
FAQ
What is the best link building tool in 2026?
It depends on the job. For outreach to the pages AI answers cite, GEOboom; for agency outreach at volume, Pitchbox; for an outreach CRM, BuzzStream; for backlink research, Ahrefs or Semrush; for email finding, Hunter; for monitoring, Linkody or SE Ranking. Most teams combine a research tool with an outreach tool.
How much does link building cost?
Tools run from free (Google Search Console, free plans at Hunter and Prospeo) to $49–$300 a month for outreach software and about $50–$139 for research tools. Services charge per placement: $82–$517 at FATJOE, $100–$500 at Respona, $400 flat at SaaSBacklinks. With outreach software, you pay publishers directly, and some placements are free exchanges.
Are there free link building tools?
Yes. Google Search Console shows who links to you, Ahrefs Free covers Site Explorer and Site Audit for your own verified sites, Hunter's free plan includes 50 credits a month and Prospeo's 100, and Majestic has a free Backlink Checker. Free tiers cover checks and lookups; outreach at volume needs a paid tool.
Which link building methods do these tools support?
Outreach-led methods: getting your brand into listicles and roundups, guest posts, link gap outreach to sites that link to competitors, and unlinked brand mentions. Ahrefs and Semrush find the targets, Hunter, Skrapp.io and Prospeo find the people, outreach tools send the emails, and services such as FATJOE run the whole process for a fee.
Is link building software worth it?
It is once outreach volume makes manual work the bottleneck. By GEOboom's estimate, a classic outreach tool plus your own team takes 40–70 hours a month. In GEOboom's published case study, the client spent about 10 minutes to launch and about 2 hours a month on approvals. For a few links a year, manual outreach or a service may be enough.
Do I need more than one link building tool?
Usually two or three: one to research targets, one to run outreach and one to monitor placements. GEOboom covers prospecting, contact finding, outreach and placement checks in one subscription, so it works alone when prospects come from your AI-visibility tracker, or next to a research tool such as Ahrefs or Semrush.
How this list was prepared
Who wrote it. Oleksii Andrusenko runs GrowPad, an SEO and GEO agency, and co-founded GEOboom after GrowPad's clients kept asking to get into ChatGPT. Reviewed by Artur, GEOboom's CTO.
What we checked. On October 29, 2026: the pricing and product pages of all 15 tools, each tool's G2 rating and FATJOE's Trustpilot rating, and the top Google results for "link building tools" in the US, to see which tools readers already compare. For Pitchbox, BuzzStream, FATJOE and Respona we also drew on our own reviews and comparisons from October 2026. Screenshots come from each tool's own site and product pages, GEOboom's included.
What we didn't do. We didn't buy placements from the three services or run a campaign in every tool for this list. Features are described from each vendor's site, help pages and public reviews.
Assumptions. The per-placement figure for GEOboom with Buy for you assumes five paid placements a month at $120 each — the fee we assume for a DR 40–50 site, and the median paid quote from the DR 40–50 publishers who have replied to our own outreach with a price. At that fee the 30% charge reaches its $40 minimum. The 40–70 hours a month for a classic outreach tool plus your own team is GEOboom's estimate. Linkody showed euro prices from our location.
Disclosure. GEOboom is our product, and it is listed first in outreach. Every other tool is described from its own pages and public reviews, and we update prices when they change.
If something has changed, email artur@geoboom.io and we'll fix it.
